It's been a fun year so far. Last night he read a library book to me. There were only a few words he needed help with. He counts well over a hundred... daily. If we don't stop him, he'll count over and over and over. He also loves to count by 10's. He'll rattle off our home phone number like nobody's business. He has yet to conquer Michael's or my cell numbers. Poor kids these days have to learn more numbers than we did.
In P.E. they run laps and do exercises (burpees, push up, jumping jacks, etc.). For every 10 miles Kincaid runs, he gets a paper shoe. He's very proud of his first shoe as it's on our fridge. He's working hard towards his next shoe. I think it's a great program to keep kids active.
He loves music even though he has my vocal skills. Right now they are learning "Do, Re, Me". I love listening to him sing because he doesn't know all the words to songs and fills in the blanks himself. That's usually a daily laugh at our house.
He has a lot of friends and is a good friend to others, according to his teacher. That makes us very proud. We hope he can be the kid that stands up to bullies and does what is right. We talk to him about not teasing other kids or allowing someone else to tease or fight.
His favorite part of the school day is lunch. He LOVES school lunch. The program was changed this year. Everything is portioned, even the ketchup. There are no sweets (like my favorite chocolate cake). The dessert is fruit. The menu consists of a meat, bread, starch, two veggies and two fruits. If that sounds like a lot, it is. Michael and I have both eaten with him. We couldn't believe how much food they are served. Kincaid says he loves it because it's healthy. I'm just glad the school is pushing healthy foods. In some homes, that's the best meal the kids will get.
At home Kincaid loves to play. In his toy room he has two Thomas train sets set up. He'll mix in a little of his farm equipment and haul some of the tracks on his flatbed trailer. Upstairs under and around the table is more farm equipment. Since we don't eat at our table, we let him keep it out most of the time. He lines up the combine, wagons, tractors, etc every night. He's also gotten more interested in his tinker toys and Legos. Of course both require Dad's assistance.
After school he gets to watch two PBS kids shows. Wild Kratt's is his favorite. It's a great show about animals and habitats. I can't believe how much he learns in that short time.
Wednesday's are Family Game Night. He loves playing games as a family. Usually because he wins. Michael is on a major losing streak in Sequence for Kids. We might have to switch it up... maybe Twister this week.
Kincaid is definitely an outdoors kid. Even on the coldest day of the year, he asked to be outside. Why?!?!? I couldn't find a reason good enough to leave the house. He loves to ride his go-cart or tiger tail or scooter. He'll play outside for hours by himself. That's his element.
He's already went to his first friend sleep-over. He did great and can't wait for his next one. He spends the night with grandparents and great grandparents regularly. He likes going places and being independent of us. Sometimes it makes me a little sad, but then I remind myself he can't live with us forever. There are some life skills that he has to develop on his own.
Kincaid just finished up his third year of wrestling. He enjoyed it this year. He loved going to practices. He even did a meet. He got 4th out of 4, but he was very proud of his medal. We were proud of him being a good sport. He talks about next year already.
There is so much more to write but this blog is getting a little long.
Kincaid is an incredible kid. He's our daily source of entertainment. We are blessed to have him as our son.
He wanted a mohawk for his wrestling meet.
It takes more than below freezing temps to keep him inside.
